83 Bronco leak where fuel filter screws into carb

I am doing some work on a Motorcraft 2150 carburetor on a 1983 Bronco. I had to also replace the fuel line between the fuel pump and the carb, and decided to go ahead and replace the fuel filter that screws into the carb. Now I have a leak where the fuel filter screws into the carb. I have a Haynes manual, but there are a few questions it does not answer that I hope folks can help with.

1. Is there a torque spec for tightening the fuel filter into the carb? I don't want to overdo anything, as I am afraid of stripping out the aluminum threads.

2. Should I put some kind of compound on the threads of the filter when it is installed?

3. Is there supposed to be any gasket or o-ring or anything else that seals between the filter and the carb?

4. Should the flange of the filter from which the threads protrude bottom against the side of the carb? Right now I have a gap of about 3/16 of an inch.

Thanks for any assistance,
Don

Re: 83 Bronco leak where fuel filter screws into carb

yo,
for the life of me I can not find any 2150 parts break-out diagram for the broncos we have that show the fuel inlet gasket; it is often mentioned in overhaul gasket kits and is prob. avail. at NAPA, etc.
or like this one:
http://www.dormanproducts.com/cgi-bi...ist=1380:302:0
don't know if 1" is correct tho. that is the HELP, DORMAN, etc, brands on the usual parts displays
they also market a Carburetor Fuel Inlet Repair Fitting, but some say these are iffy;
http://www.dormanproducts.com/cgi-bi...41384&item_no=

Most never use Teflon® tape on the fitting due to possible break-down of the tape and entry into jets/orifices. Apply some thread sealant to the threads - such as Permatex® High Performance Thread Sealant
