86 Bronco 302 EFI ECM/fuel Inj. Driver
Hello. 86 fullsize Bronco with fuel injected 302.
Will only start when it wants to and usually has to sit for a few days minimum to restart. Even after running it for only ONE second. When it does fire up, it fires up INSTANTLY and runs perfectly. BUT, Idle doesn't come down to low speed idle. stays at 2500 and this usually means it wont restart.
Previous owners say they boosted it but had the cables backwards and it wouldn't run after that.
Done all the tests I could for spark, fuel pressure, ECM powers and grounds, everything tests perfectly. Tried freezing the ECM - no change, took ECM apart - nothing strange, froze the ICM - no change.
The only thing that is strange is the fuel injectors don't pulse during cranking. Been messing with this for over a year now. Just recently found out, if i tap the fuel injector ground wire at the ECM durink cranking, it fires up and it will stay running even after I stop grounding the injector batch wire.
I assume ECM because the distributor, ICM (dist. mounted), coil, ECM terminals all check out awesome.
Called some wreckers for ECM's and found out I have an f-150 ECM in the bronco already - part number ends in K1A, should be X1A, so I've been told.
So if any of you have a no start of the fuel injectd engine and have great spark and air and such and the ECM is powering up the fuel pumps properly, try tapping the injector ground to ground during cranking.
Anybody have any ideas if it will be my ECM or something else?? Thankyou all. OR is there an aftermarket ECM and/or distributor?
