88 Bronco 2 Code 18

I Have an 88 Bronco 2 with 2.9 and when I drive it for awhile so the temp gets hot, It starts running rough, has no power, and sounds bad. It has always had a little bit of lifter tap which comes and goes....
When I get home and connect my code tester I get a Code 18, But when it cools down It reads Normal.
I have thought connector getting hot, insulating the wiring harness extends the drive time before the symptom occurs. but it still does it....
Any Ideas,,,

Thanks Brain

Re: 88 Bronco 2 Code 18

all i can tell you is what code 18 is my ford bronco service manual says code 18 is possible causes of concern are..... ignition coil problem,tfi module problem, vechicle wire harness,or eca problem... and the symptoms are.... will not start,stalls,or idles/runs rough. as for the tap my 88 bronco ll had a terrible tap and no power after it heats up i replaced the heads and she runs great... hope this helps reaper...

Re: 88 Bronco 2 Code 18

another entry yesterday in the new URl here, but it did not Xfer here;
I agree- it has all the symtoms of a TFI Module/Hall Effect gone bad;
also ck the SPOUT Connector for looseness..never know what happens when vibrating!
On big Broncos, the Spout/TFI wring frays right in front of the distributor/or near the radiator support
Here a VG Diagnostics site:Ford EEC-IV, and TFI Diagnostics Manual
http://www.broncoii.org/Tech%20Pages/eeciv/index.htm
see their TFI Module Diagnostics Manual
