89 Bronco Overheating?

My wife and I own an 89 Bronco XLT Lariat with the 302? and no overdrive. It's got a 6" lift and 35" tires, the rest is stock.

Is there a common problem that would cause it to sputter and quit running on hot days?

I'm a computer geek, so I don't know too much about the vehicles I own, any help is appreciated. :)

Hi, Let me first say to everyone that you have a great forum here! I look forward to contributing.

Regarding your question, the most common cause of this problem is the TFI module. It is either mounted on the distributor shaft or on the inside left fender near the brake booster.

Unfortunately, the TFI module is a dealer part and costs around $120. If your Bronco runs fine on cooler days and only acts up when it gets hot, the TFI is a good place to start.

Another possible cause of the engine quitting when it's hot out would be vapor lock. A good way to see if vapor lock is causing your problem is to run one tank of premium to see if the problem goes away. Premium fuel has a higher vaporization temperature, which will often prevent vapor lock from occuring.

Hope these suggestions help.
