90 bronco A/C problem

By the title you can see the jist of my problem 1990 F/S Bronco brand new compressor and the manifold hose. Put in 3 cans of R-12 (12oz) and still no cold air(oh b4 I instaled the compressor I put in 4-5 oz of oil) clutch clicks on for about 5 sec every 5-10 sec but still no cold air. Does the sys. need to be purged of all air after being opened up? Tried to fix W/O a shop touching my truck but it appears I might need one (very little A/C exp.) Any help???
