confused Bronco 351W Emissions

'Sup everybody!? My name is garagejoe63. I'm from Tool & die maker from detroit and drive a 1993 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer w/ 351 Windsor. I bought the truck back in 2000 in L.A. when I lived there. Now, back in Detroit, the truck has 159,000 miles and is starting to act like it. I recently took it in for an exhaust leak wich turned out to be a broken check valve. The technician recommended that I remove all emissions from the truck and let it breath. He said he did it on his brothers f-150 and it made a significant gain in hp and fuel economy. I can see how this would help but I don't know where to begin. I'm very mechanically inclined and have built a few trucks in the past, but nothing so technical. CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW DO I REMOVE THE EMISSIONS FROM THIS ENHINE AND NOT CAUSE IT TO RUN POORLY???

Re: Bronco 351W Emissions

That's a huge job. Do you have emissions testing there?
The ck valve is a common rust problem; as well as the cat conv tubes (but they are cheap). Your PCM is set-up to control E's as well as use a lot of E components for engine management.

Re: Bronco 351W Emissions

We do not have testing here anymore. I figured I can start by removing the cat system ( it's pretty big & I know they get clogged up). Then smog pump, this will require me to remeasure for a new serpentine if thats possible. Can I plug where the check valve was?
