Exclamation bronco starting problem

i have a 1990 bronco. when i turn the ignition key nothing happens. if i hook up jumper cables the electrical system will come on but the truck will not start. a rough, loud, sort of grinding sound is heard when i turn the ignition. i disconnected the battery and hooked up the jumper cables and the same sound was heard so i know it is not simply a dead battery. any ideas as to why it will still not start?

Re: bronco starting problem

I would try replacing your starter selenoid...it should be mounted on the right front fender.....if that doesnt fix the problem then it sounds like your ignition system has gone south and you may have to re-do your ignition.
