Re: hey 92big bronco

I've never messed with it....just lived with it. The only time it clunks for me is when going from reverse to drive. The shift kit certainly doesn't help the matter, but it doesn't really bother me much. If/when the t-case decides to give me a hard time I'll probably do something about it. I guess it's depends on how much it bothers you.

If you really wanted to fix it, the 1356 t-cases are pretty easy to remove and even easier to work on. Most shop manuals will have a few good pictures to help you get it back together. You'd be surprised how simple they are. If you have the time and money.....and if it bugs ya I'd say fix it. If not, it's really nothing to worry about. Just a little quirk in an otherwise great vehicle. But I'm not biased am I???

Re: hey 92big bronco

Thanks! I was wondering if other owner's clunk problems were related to the BW instead of the driveshaft/u-cardan area.

Re: hey 92big bronco

I've never had a single issue with the driveshaft. The double cardan joint in the rear driveshaft is pretty darn strong and Ford was smart enough to install grease fittings in the joint and in the u-joints to help you keep everything in top shape......which they don't always do for some odd reason.

If the "clunk" is excessive, it would be a good idea to jack the rear of the vehicle up and check the 3 u-joints, the double cardan joint, and the slip joint for excessive slop to be sure your problem isn't somewhere else. Check to be sure you don't have excessive backlash in the rear end as well.

Before you crawl under the vehicle with the rear wheels off the ground......get some jackstands under it!
