Looking for info on radiator - Ford Forums

a few months ago I replaced the radiator in my 92 bronco V-8 351. the upper connection from the transmission was leaking so i applied teflon tape and tightened it. that worked until this week when it appears the connection has broken inside the radiator. the connection is threaded on the outside then it appears to become a smooth shaft that penetrates the radiator and is flanged internally and sealed with a gasket/o-ring by system pressure and this external cheap looking universal nut. internally the gasket/o-ring has become pinched and susequently failed. my question is how do i fix this? i can't find info anywhere on radiator internals and would like to avoid having to purchase another radiator or pay for fixing something that may require time but is fairly easy. what is this part(gasket/o-ring) called and is this something that i can do myself by removing the radiator? any info is appreciated.

I put on a external trans cooler on my Bronco and disconected the cooler on the radiator. Better for the trans and engine. With the cooler, you are not adding heat to the engine coolant.

that sounds like a good idea too, but was there a plug or something that went into the radiator because it's the actual connection on my radiator thats leaking from the inside of the radiator.

If is not leaking water out the connection, I would not worry about it. Just disconnect the coolant lines and run them to the new cooler. When I did this on my Bronco, I did plug off the radiator connections, just to keep dirt from getting in there. But sense water does not run in the trans cooler part, not to worry.
