Newbie with a question-Just bought a 95 Bronco

Hi all,

I just bought a 95 Bronco (Eddie Bauer) last night. The truck is mint with 65,000 miles on it. The only problem with it is the window on the tailgate. It seems that you need to shut the tailgate 5 or 6 times before the window will go up again. The wiring harness was just replaced by the previous owner. He said that he thinks the contacts were at fault. Any advice or opinions for me? I need to fix this asap.....

Thanks,
Tony

In order for the back window to go up, both latches on the gate have to be closed securely. It could be as simple as adjusting the latch/latches to close properly. To check them, lower the gate and manually latch them both then try to roll up the window. If it goes up, the latches aren't closing properly.

Be sure to pop the latches before trying to close it again.

OK,

I have a 95 Bronco EB with 81,000 and mine has been doing the same thing, i can put it down, but when i open and close the gate it won't go up, then i drive across town and it will start to work fine, or it will be dead when i try to lower it, but the next day after driving around it will just work fine, going to work on it this week because i plan to put her up for sale very soon,

OK, this is what i figured out, latching both sides didn't make the window work either so i went inside and unpluged and hot wired the switch which is on the drivers side gate latch all together, window works fine now, i can raise it when the gate is down but other then that the problem is solved,

Re: Newbie with a question-Just bought a 95 Bronco

I had to replace the switch for my back window a year or so ago. The best way to tell if the switch is at fault is to just use your key to raise the window. It will go up and down regardless of whether or not the switch on the dash is working. If it goes up with the key but won't go up with the switch, you know the switch is the problem. If it doesn't go up, you know where to look next.

Rather than "hotwiring" anything, I would go down to Ford and pick up a new switch. They aren't cheap, but doing things right the first time usually isn't.
