rear seal & oil pan gasket - Ford Forums

Well my 92 bronco started burning oil about a week ago. I checked under it the other day and noticed the rear seal is almost gone and the oil pan gaskets are almost falling out. My Haynes manual says you have to pull the engine up to change it out, but as I was under the bronco looking, it looks like I can drop the crossover exhaust pipe and pull the oil pan out. There looks like 2.5 inches between the front of the oil pan and the front crossmember so the pan would slide out. My question is, do I have to pull the engine up or can I do as I described will work? Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

The problem which you might run into is the depth the oil pump and pickup tube go into the pan. I wouldn't think you would have to pull the engine per see, just raise it up enough to clear. Fords

I did this same job, on my '92 with the 5.0. I had to jack the engine clear up into the firewall, to get the pan out. The crankshaft dips well into the pan. It would have been a little easier with the exhaust, removed, but would have still been a PITA. The whole job took me nine hours. Granted, about three hours of that were because the gasket kept falling into the pan. The gasket cement I used didn't work very well. Good luck.
