Smog Pump Removal

Hi all,
Its been a while.
I have a ?. I now have a 86 fullsize 5.0. I just changed the belts and my smog pump started making a ticking noise. So I got a new one and it makes the same noise. It sounds like a diesel. Any idea's. I about to rip it out but I dont want my gasmileage to go down the crapper. is there a way to make it think its still there maybe? Thanks all any help would be great!

Re: Smog Pump Removal

Did you replace the belt twice? or did you replace the pump? (reading your post I wasnt quite sure) Where did you get the replacement pump? Take it back and get another one. I had the same prob and had to replace the pump twice. Sometimes Checker and Autozone will sell you a "new" part that is actually a defective reman part. Its worth a try.

If you live in a county that imposes smog compliance in order to get your tags you will not want to start removing smog equipment.

Re: Smog Pump Removal

I replaced the belt once and pump twice. I guess I'll head to the other parts to find a pump. Thanks
And I don't have to worry about local laws. I was just worried about what damage if any could happen to my truck.
