Stops runnig when outside air temp is 95+

I have a problem that I cannot quite figure out............

Its is a 86 B2

Whenever the outside air temp reaches 95 the engine will shutdown after about 25 minutes of running.

The internal engine temp is fine and it is not overheating though it shutdowns as though some safety feature has engaged. There is no gas going to the system during this time. If I let it sit for 60 mins or so and let it cool down it will restart just fine. Again it only happens when the outside air temp is 95+, at all other times it is just fine.
I have replaced the coolant tempature sensor, the air intake tempature sensor, TFI in the distributor, and flushed the system, it still persists. I replaced the coolant tempature sensor (the one to the computer)because I noticed that if I removed the wire to it the thing would restart after sitting for only 30 mins as though it will now let the gas flow. If I put the wire back on the sensor too soon, it will not start and no gas flow, remove it again and it will restart, let it set for an hour or so with the wire on it and it will restart. BUT not stay started very long if the outside temp is still above 95. Leave the wire off after it cools down for a long period and it will not restart at all as it is just pooring gas into the system.

My next move is to replace the computer, any ideas and thoughts would be much appreciated before I invest in a new computer.

Well I had the same problem and I replaced my ign coil and plug wires and it went away but I might have gotten lucky.

Re: Stops runnig when outside air temp is 95+

before you go and buy a new computer i dont think that is the problem.
but maybe you could try placing a cloth bag or something over the computer with ice in it to keep it cool during the next heat wave to see if it makes a difference. i would think that the computer is getting a signal from something else to be causing the shutdown.
as stated in the prev post coils can also become saturated in extreme heat so this too is a possible problem but i dont see the link that causes the fuel shutoff.
another easy check would be to see if the fuel pump is the problem and see if it cycles on and off with the key.

Re: Stops runnig when outside air temp is 95+

I'm having similar problem with '86 Bronco II, although the temp outside today was only 84 deg. I was in a traffic jam, and it seemed like the fuel just shut off. Engine was not overheating. This happened before in about the same circumstance (engine idleing, waiting for traffic to clear). After sitting for about an hour it restarted and I drove home with no problem.

Re: Stops runnig when outside air temp is 95+

well guys i have not got a clue on what would cause the shutdown in traffic or high temps but i know a few other ford mechanics and techs so if i get the chance tomorrow i will make a call or 2 and see if they might have come across this same problem. so if i find anything out i will post it right away.

Re: Stops runnig when outside air temp is 95+

ok guys i checked with a friend of mine who is a service manager at the local ford dealer and he said they have had several cases where the engine shuts down after it gets hot and he also said they replaced the stator and module on all of them to solve the problem so i guess the moral of this story is to replace the stator and module as a pair and use dielectric grease.
