I have a 2000 Ford Excursion V-10 My gear shifter is broke. my truck won't go in reverse. I have to start it in neutral which lookes like the needle is on park. Someone please help me

If it has a lot of slack it could just be the bolts at the base of the steering column for the linkage are loose. Did it start doing this sudenly or gradualy? If sudenly, more than likely the shaft and bushings on top of the steering column needs replacing.

thank you for ur advice...it kind of started doing it gradually first i could not put it all the way into park, and then i had to start starting it in neutral and now it won't go into reverse and now the neutral looks like its at the "p"
