Four days ago, the check engine light was on. The code P0442 is as follows:
EVAP(evaporative emission system) small leak/no flow condition
Probable causes:
1 defective or loose fuel cap
2 EVAP canister or hose cracked-not connected
3 purge or vent solenoid defective
4 vacuum leak at engine
How to figure out this problem?
By the way, car still runs fine, no abnormality except the light. The plastic fuel cap is good and tightened, but the metal outside of neck restrictor is rusty.

Clean the sealing areas of the gas cap.

Pretty hard to diagnose this one without the proper leak detection tools. However, the gas caps and sealing surfaces are known problems with these vehicles. I'd start with a new gas cap and using a 600 grit wet/dry paper on the sealing surface. Plug the filler neck with a rag while you sand off the rust. Then use a vacuum cleaner before you pull out the rag.
