01 Taurus - Window/Door won't open

Purchased a 2001 Taurus two years ago. Last year, started having problems with drivers side window not wanting to open (roll down) and passenger door not unlocking when pushing the key button. Sometimes, must unlock the door from the inside. Took to dealer, they replaced parts in window and door, but same problems persists. Back to dealer, they used WD-40, but could not replicate the problems. Doesn't happen all the time. Seems like problems occur more when weather is cold, and less if weather is warm - don't know if this makes any sense, but it's the only thing I noticed. Took it back to dealer last week, they can't duplicate it, so no fix.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Re: 01 Taurus - Window/Door won't open

WD-40! Next time, they'll use duct tape...!

If the window motor/actuator and door locks work occasionally, then it's most likely a wiring problem... a short somewhere along the line. Make sure that the wiring connectors have no exposed wires, as moisture can accumulate. If you have a multimeter, test all the leads you can reach. Be sure to have an assistant run the locks or window while you test the wires.

Also check that the dealer properly installed the vapor barrier in the door. If not, you could always fabricate a replacement or tell the dealer to order you a new one. I find that they're good to remove/replace a few times, before they no longer stick on.
