'01 Vulcan timing check/adjustment

I am finishing up repairing the front cover and oil pan gasket. During the repair the crankshaft rotated slightly(5 degrees or so). Before I attempt to fire the engine, I would like to verify the timing is correct.

My question: If I rotate the engine to TDC can I safely start the engine? I would prefer to re-time everything than "guess and check" in the current state. If the engine is rotated with the car off, how do I reset the ignition/electronics for TDC?

Re: '01 Vulcan timing check/

Were you just doing the front cover and hadn't removed the timing chain? If so, there's nothing to worry about.

Thats what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure. I didn't mess with the timing set, just the gaskets. When I was removing/installing the crankshaft pulley bolt I accidentally rotated the crank, but the damper assembly was installed in the same relative position to the crank.

Then there's nothing to worry about. It's better to ask than make a mistake. There are no foolish questions. Git-r done.
