I have a 2002 ford taurus 24v with 56,000 miles on it. About a month ago it started to have a miss at idle very faint with the a/c off but more prominant with the a/c turned on. It threw a code for a cylinder 1 misfire. I replaced the IAC and it still was acting up so i replaced the plugs and wires. It now has the miss at idle whether the a/c is on or off but is not throwing a check engine light.
cleaned the maf.. Still has the misfire. If i drive it around with the a/c off the check engine will go out after a few days. As soon as i turn the a/c back on the misfire gets worse and the light comes back on. Just drove it on a 400 mile trip with no a/c and it ran fine except for a slight miss at idle once in a while but didn't trip a code.

Reason: add info.
Look at the bottom and all around the sides for some small cracks.
You can also using a spray bottle squirt the coil gradually with water while the engines running. If you start seeing an electrical light show around the coil and the engine starts running rough and/or stalls you have a bad coil.
