'03 SES rear speakers

To start, I'll quickly inform you that I am a complete newbie at doing essentially anything with cars...I can change oil and tires, thats about it.

Anyhow, until gas prices made me think twice about it, I drove a fully loaded '03 F-150. Now I have stepped down to a not-so-fully loaded '03 Taurus SES. Anyway, as the type who must have music playing as often as possible, and loud music at that, one of the first things I noticed was a serious downgrade in the power and quality of the sound system from the pickup to the car. I therefore am interested in replacing the rear speakers with a higher quality variety.

However, I haven't the slightest idea how...I can see that they are obviously sticking into the trunk, but I really don't know how to get them out...There is no grill on the inside, that I can see, they shoot the sound straight through fabric...

Any help would be great.
Thanks.

Re: '03 SES rear speakers

You have to remove the rear seat-back and then the sill panel to replace the speakers.

Re: '03 SES rear speakers

Right. So I pulled down the little back-seat trunk access thingers, and there were 2 bolts on the top which would appear to release the back seat, so I took them out, but the rest of the seat-back still wouldn't pull down.

How is that supposed to work?

There is 2 more bolts towards the bottom on the sides. You also have to pull out the rear seat cushion. This just pulls up in the front.
