I am replacing the AC Compressor on my 03 Taurus. (Compressor Froze). Can I just put the new compressor on then take it to the shop for the AC work or do I need to have it towed... or is there a way to make it drivable for the "back yard mechanic"? ie. Is the vehicle drivable if I simply put the compressor on and put it back together? I dont want to damage the compressor obviously. Any expert words of wisdom on any other issue I may not have considered would be appreciated as well. As it stands right now, the old compressor is off and I'm ready to install the new one. Thanks
You can go ahead and install it, wont hurt a thing. The clutch on the compressor will not engage without pressure in the system, only the pulley will be turning, not the compressor.
