'03 Taurus SES - Car is doing auto shutdown

Hi All, New to list. Wonder if I can get advice about why my '03 Taurus with 140k miles is doing a "File, Shut down" command while driving or while waiting at a stop light. Seems like an electrical malfunction somehow is signaling car to turn off. Wonder if it relates to wires and spark plugs. Just bought the old beast a few weeks ago. Maybe the fuel pump is cutting out. Not sure if car has ever had a tune up? Any thoughts out there?

Probably best bet would be to get it scanned and see what codes are shown.

Well, your last post landed there, but if you click "Forum" in the blue bar near the top of the page, it'll list all the sections of the forum, then scroll down to about a third of the way, you'll find it, they're listed alphabetically.

Ever notice that there's so many high performance parts available for GM products?

Did you ever think that maybe they NEED them?

Re: '03 Taurus SES - Car is doing auto shutdown

Mechanic said codes looked fine when he plugged computer into my '03 Taurus SES, my SES is doing an "auto shutdown" when at a light or skipping a beat when driving.I'm trying to save money with the mechanic so that he doesn't bill me for extensive analysis. Car had been running fine for several weeks until this flukey electrical problem that feels like I've driven into the Bermuda triangle. Anyone else have a "Bermuda Triangle" electrical problem like me? I think it might be the ignition switch or the Security system interfering with the electrical system.

Do you have a remote car starter on it and if so is it factory or after market?
