1993 sable misfire...I think...
I recently got a 1993 Mercury Sable for a great price.. Free!! Of course, being free, there is some problems with it. I was told it needs a new transmission, but before I start looking into the transmission, I wanted to get the other problem taken care of.
There appears to be a hard misfire throughout the driving range. It's felt mostly at idle,in gear. Although it'll miss while not in gear, it's not as noticable. It's worse when the ac clutch engages or disengages. I've noticed when I'm turning the wheel, the wheel jerks slightly like I've got power steering one second, then not the next second. This also appears to be related to the "misfire".
Does this sound like routine tune up issues? I thought there was a sensor (or sensors) that were supposed to send a signal to the PCM to comensate when the idle speed dropped....
