1993 Taurus GL 3.0L V6 AXOD transmission question

Ok here's two questions after 280 miles of drive (140 each direction).

before i started my tour i checked all fluids levels so the starting point was all ok.
1. when i reached my destination (which had lots of up hill and mountain climb) i thought maybe i should do a quick checkup of all levels and so i leveled the car, changed to parking and found that the transmission level went all down. couple of inserts of the dipping handle got it out all dry. i then used my special funnel and added one quart (all that i had there) - i then got the dipping handle level a bit under the minimum. i drove a bit back and i saw a 4" puddle on the road and obviously the transmission carter all wet. one thing is for sure - i did not "miss" while filling as my funnel will not allow it. also, looking on the filling neck from above shows a dry neck. the transmission carter was treated a year ago ( filter and gasket). any ideas where this leak may come from ? are there any "known" illness to this transmission or weak spots which tend to leak ?

2. it happen one time on the way to the destination and another back, that the check engine light turned on. on both times turning off the engine and on again cleared it. how do i check which dtc caused it ? should i have the check engine on again in order to put the ecu in self test mode and see what it gives back as dtc or that i can check it even if it is off ?

can anyone recommend an online store that sells both engine and transmission filters/kits suitable for this model ?

thanks for any help!!

You can check for codeslike this. Fuel Injection Technical Library How To Run a Self-Test
The best way to check is to get under it and see what you find. There aren't any weak points for leaking that I've seen. You can get the filter kit at Rockaut, one of our sponsors. Check their forum for the discount code.

Re: 1993 Taurus GL 3.0L V6 AXOD transmission question

well, it say everything but the transmission data...

today i took the car to a friend's garage and lifted it to see whats under....was all oil wet to the rear of the car. looks like the gasket of the oil pan is leaking. i noticed there is another vertical pan on the left side of the car (drivers side) without any draining bolt - is that related to the transmission too ?

That side pan is where the valve body is located. You only need to drain the lower pan. There should be a sticker on the left front door with codes on it. See what the code for the trans shows. Here's from a Super duty but it shows where the code is. Post the code and we can let you know which trans you have. Identification Codes

It's probably a T and that would be an AXODE (AX4S).

...Which in this case the transmission pan would be stamped "AXOD METRIC".
