Hi all,

Every now and then i have the Check Engine light turn on with no apparent cause while driving outside town.
does this car have a communication diagnostics or should there be a place to hook up an LED or test lamp for blinking diag code ?

Yes and you can also use a V.O.M. but it has to be an analog meter with a needle.
It's much easier to buy a tester for about $50.00. It actually gives you numbered codes.
You need one specific for Ford.

I just need to figure out which pin is the "blinker" one and i can design and build myself an LED blinker (i'm electronics engineer in the automotive area so no problem there...)

Something i don't understand. Maybe i missed something. If your an electronics engineer in the automotive area why haven't you figued this out
already ? The wiring diagram for the code read is printed in the Haynes
manual. Spend the $50.00 and buy the code reader. A plinking light, or a printed number ? I'll take the printed number.

Ford code reader. OBD1 $50.00 in canada. About the size of a small pack of cigarettes.
Any parts store. It will do a LOT MORE than any blinking light will ever do. You can also
trigger the code with the jumper and watch the dash light blink. Same thing as what you want to build. It already comes with the car.
