1993 Taurus GL Timing

Just wondering -

I got my taurus in 2004 i think it had around 160,000km on it. now its 227,000km.
i dont know when or if timing was treated in this car so my question is what should i do ?
for the period i own the car, i replaced the radiator, a/c compressor and drier, water pump, alternator (three times - last time i did it myself hoping it will last longer), internal heat exchanger, tensioner, idler and some more small things (coolant hoses, sensor units, filters, belt, lamps etc).

thanks !

Re: 1993 Taurus GL Timing

Some info here on different engines ,

" Answer:

The Taurus / Sables are equipped with a timing chain. No scheduled replacement is necessary. The only 3.0 Ford Taurus that had a belt was the SHO model, which had a Yamaha built 3.0 V6.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You do not need to change a timing chain as a general maintenance item, unlike a timing belt.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Generally timing chains are only changed on very high-mileage motors if they are being rebuilt or refreshed. In most cases by the time the engine is due for a timing chain change, it could use a rebuild anyway

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some cars have timing belts. Timing belts and chains need to be replaced at the first sign of damage. If the chains are not replaced, the engine will come to a grinding halt and suffer severe damage.

Chain

The 3.0 liter engine codes (1)or (u) and 3.8 liter engine code (4) engines use a timing chain. The Taurus SHO engines code(y) and code (p) use a timing belt. The engine code is the 8th digit in your serial number, count from front of the number.

== Answer == Replacement of timing chains is not a regular maintenance operation. If there is no specific problem, leave it be.
Your Taurus has a timing chain and so do all others except the Taurus SHO. Never, as it does not have a belt, it has a chain.
The 3.0 liter - OHV - Vulcan V6 engine has a timing CHAIN
It has a timing chain.

== Answer == If you have a 4 cylinder engine, or a 3.8l V-6, you have a timing chain. If you have a 3.0 or 3.2L V-6 also called a SHO engine, you have a timing belt. I hope this helps Answer #2..... I have a 1998 Ford Taurus Wagon GL with a 3.0 V6, and mine is a timing chain........
