1996 taurus vulcan swap to a 1999 taurus

Hello, I have a question about a possible engine swap. putting a 96 vulcan engine in a 99 taurus . is this a direct swap? Will the wiring harness be the same? they look identical... under the hood. What should i be aware of? its been a long time since i did an engine swap. Any help with this matter would be graciously appreciated! Thank you..

Don't even think it. Nothing is the same.

If anything else I'd go with a newer engine if possible, but the Taurus was redesigned in '00 so that limits your options. Emissions can come back to haunt you if you decide to spend $10K to plunk an older engine into a newer car with the hope that it'll work.

If you're after a new engine I suggest JASPER Engines & Transmissions:: remanufactured engine: diesel, marine, import They're not the cheapest, but they offer a warranty on most engines they sell. There's even a video to watch before you consider installing a junkyard engine in the vehicle. After all, you do generally get what you pay for.

I found this Ford Engines, Used Engines, Remanufactured Engines, Reman Engines, Rebuilt Engines, Reconditioned Engines, Reman Auto Parts but don't think it's a Ford company.

I know Mopar offers engines to the public through dealers; however, most are V8 options. I'm not sure if Ford offers short blocks to the public. I would imagine if anything they too have short block V8s you could order. Otherwise I'm sure Ford thinks that there isn't much money to be had due to the vast volume of I4 and V6 cars on the road, or sitting in salvage yards with good engines.
