Hello everyone, I'm going to go ahead and start this off by saying that I'm rather unskilled mechanically.

Does this make/model have an electronic chip in the key/ignition? Or is it a plain old key? And if it does have a chip, is it possible to disable it so that I can have a key for the doors (same key for doors and ignition) made so that I can start it with this new key?

I've lost my keys in the lake and a locksmith or similar service costs an awful lot in my area. I am trying to cut down the cost by having a mechanically savvy friend help me figure out a solution. If you have any ideas I would certainly appriciate them.

P.S. Don't forget to make sure your keys aren't in your pocket the next time you jump into a large body of water.

Call your dealer and give them the vin number. They will tell you if you have factory
anti theft. If you do you cannot just get a key cut. It won't work. You have to know what you have before starting anything. Good luck
