So I bought by 99 Taurus from a private seller who was moving cars for a repo company.

The car only came with 1 key, it looks like a copy because it doesn't have a plastic jacket on it. I already know about the chip and the cost to program another at the dealer.

My question is: Is there a way to find out if my car has a keyless entry system? Maybe it's a code in the VIN #?

I figure the keyfobs & other copies of the keys are probably still in the possession of the previous owner.

Can I go to the dealer and buy another keyfob and have them program it?

If it starts without a PATS key it probably does not.

My key does have the chip, PATS? The copy cut at Home Depot doesn't work.

You want to know about the remote keyless entry.

The only way to tell is to look and see if you have the Remote Anti-Theft Personality Module. The remote anti-theft personality (RAP) module is located below instrument panel on LH side above brake pedal.
