I have a 2000 Ford Taurus 3.0 L V-6 basic model. The car has 88,000 miles on it and I have vibration in steering column. I had everything checked and one of my Buds at work has the same exact car but with 160,000 miles and says it is the rotors. From everything I have checked and read I agree with him. I am looking for a recommendation for new rotors and new brake pads which I will install myself. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

P.S.
Money is no object. I just don't want to keep dealing with the annoyance.

Just don't buy cheap rotors. A lot of parts places will offer cheap rotors that are imported and they will also offer more expensive ones that are usually made in the USA or Canada. Go for the more expensive ones. I would also suggest using ceramic pads. Again, you get what you pay for and most places will offer a few different choices. You're getting a vibration because the rotors are getting warped so probably the most important thing is to not brake too hard, especially while everything is brand new. Hope this helps.

I always use the cheaper pads that are easier on the rotors but need changing more frequently.

The ceramic pads are excellent, there is no wear,dust or squeel what so ever. About 40-45 bucks for Wagners. As for the rotors, I went for the cheap ones, as long as you dont use semi-metallic, pads they will work good. I dont like the cheap organic pads, they "brake fade" too easily and saftey is #1, you get what you pay for.

To fold_em83, lrodptl, and jwko,thanks for the feedback I will go with the expensive rotors and the Wagner ceramic pads because this car has to be my Baby for the LONG RUNNNNN!

Had cheap pads on an 01 Taurus and they squealed so bad it sounded like a school bus stopping.Also had all kinds of grime and brake pad dust covering the front rims. Went with ceramic pads and the difference was like night and day with the sqeualing and the rims are as clean as the day they were put on.

Actually it is cheap pads and not the rotors that is the problem. If you get good pads (NOT Motorcraft or Albanys) and break them in correctly you will not have a problem.

Cheap pads will build up on the rotor causing your vibrations.
