2000 Ford Taurus Flashing Check engine light. Mechanic states there is low compression. Is the vehicle safe to drive in this condition? Thanks for info.

A flashing check engine light means an engine misfire. So how did your mechanic come to that conclusion??? Did he do a compression test or a cylinder leak down test??? A misfire can be caused by a multitude of things. Cylinder leakage past a valve can be one. This does not show up on a compression test unless you have a major failure. It could be a bad spark plug. If it's a Duratec it could be a coil. Get the code or codes and post it here. You could do some damage driving it this way.

flashing check engine light means there is a misfire bad enough to cause catastrophic damage to the catalytic converter. It should be fixed ASAP or it will just get more expensive.

More than likely, assuming the plugs are in good shape and plug wires if you have them, the coil or coil pack is bad.
