2000 Taurus hard 1-2 shift

2000 Taurus with 24 valve 3.0L engine has a hard upshift from 1st to 2nd gear only. Everything else is ok. What is most likely causing this?

Have your transmission shop put the scanner on it and find out. Could be anything.

With any luck it's just a bad solenoid. Keep us updated.

Could be a host of items. before you commit to a new transmission at the shop, check out:

Camshaft position sensor
Clogged or dirty transmission filter
Low level transmission fluid
throttle position sensor
transmission shift module

There are many things that need to be checked out before a shop wants to give you a new tranny for $3600.00

There are many threads in the forum here with exactly the same issue.

Good luck,

bob

Re: 2000 Taurus hard 1-2 shift

what does cam position sensor have to do with a transmission shift ? That just times the injectors. Disconnect it and it will run just fine on limp mode. Mine did for 6 months.
Too lazy to fix it at that time.

If the CPS is binding or dragging before it fails, it will cause the engine to miss or surge which can be mistaken for a tranny issue
