I have a 2000 Taurus wagon and the passenger rear seatbelt is stuck. it will not pull out or retract. Anyone have any tips on how to fix this problem? I think it must have something to do with the locking mechanism that grabs the belt when it is pulled out too fast.
I know if you pull it out all the way it will lock so that it won't pull out any more. This is for putting in child seats. Mine doesn't retract all that well. I usually have to feed it back in by hand. Once it goes all the way in, it can be retracted again.
Thanks for the reply, but mine seems to be stuck halfway out, so I cannot get it to release and feed it back in. I think that I will have to get at the retract mechanism and see what is the cause of this problem. If that is a sucess I will post "the fix".

Sorry to say this Peggles, but the darn thing fixed it's self. I was telling people not to sit on that side of the car until I had a chance to figure out what to do, then one day my son said the seat belt is working fine! Sure enough it retracts perfectly now, so I am none the wiser as to what was wrong. If it happens again I will take a look at the mechanism and post what I find out.
I just fixed this (at least temporarily) on my 2000 wagon.
With access through the rear shoulder belt I was able to push in on the side of the retractor with a long screw driver, and it works now.
