I have a 2000 Taurus SES 24v. It doesn't like to start especially when it is cold. It seemed like it wasn't getting any gas. I could turn the key on and off a few times and it seemed to pressurize the system and it would start. The local Ford garage said it was the fuel pump. I changed it along with the filter and the problem persists. Autozone suggested the cam shaft or crank shaft sensor. I've replaced both. No luck. The problem seems to be getting worse. Any ideas?
Thanks kmath@tds.net
Get a fuel pressure gauge and check your fuel pressure before you try to start the car in the morning. Try it before you put the key in the ignition, then try it with the key on but the engine not running. If you have 30+psi, it has plenty of fuel.
Thanks for the reply. I'll have to get the pressure checked or see if I can get a gauge somewhere. Do you think the gas pressure could still be too low even with the new pump and filter? It is worse as it gets colder. 32 or lower. The car is sometimes hesitant to start even when it is warmed up (from running) after you try to restart.
