Ok, it's summer now, so the problem could be worse - like no A/C at all...

but...

My A/C seems to run pretty much non - stop, even when I don't have A/C or MAX A/C selected on the dash. I understand the A/C cycling when defrost is selected, but I've never had a car where it runs all the time, even when the just the heater or vent is selected.

The only way I can see to get it to turn off is to flat turn off the air flow - set the vent controls to "off" and that's it. The compressor doesn't even seem to cycle - just on constantly.

This can't be good long term - any ideas what might be causing this??

I have a 01 and the a/c compressor will run in all mode's except vent. I have asked about this in the past and was told it was normal.

If it's "normal" to run all the time, why do the Ford dudes bother with the A/C setting? Seems like they should just have a hot to cool dial & let it go at that.

The PCM controls the AC clutch based on the high pressure switch. When the high pressure setting is reached the clutch will disengage.

If the AC Clutch is on all the time then there is a stuck relay or a grounded wire from the PCM to the relay. I suppose there's an outside chance the PCM could be bad but unlikely.

You need to trace back the AC clutch relay trigger circuit and see if indeed the PCM is commanding it on. There should be a dedicated relay for the AC clutch somewhere under the hood.
