I have a 2001 Merc Sable that the horn will just start beeping on it's own Hit the unlock/lock button on the key fob and it stops. Any ideas? Neighbors did not like this at 4:17 this morning.

It's the security alarm, are you using the original FOBs?

Yes. As best I know. Bought the car used quite some time ago. This will seem odd, but if the car is parked in the garage with the keys laying on the console, it never seems to happen. Park the car in the driveway or in the street, bring the keys in the house and it will do it every time. Anyway to just disable the security?

I don't think there's a way to turn it off without writing to the PCM. Have you asked a Ford Dealership? I'm wondering if it has something to do with the batteries in the FOBs.

Could check the hood / bonnet switch , also the trunk latch.

Spray up into the door lock mechanisms with WD40, and open and close them a few times. The door ajar switches are located in the mechanism and may be dirty (common problem) which could trick the alarm into thinking the car door was opened without the key or remote which would sound the horn. When the car is in the garage its unlocked correct? Security is disabled. Park it outside with doors locked, security enabled. Almost positive this will fix your issues.
