Hi all -- I recently purchased a 2004 Taurus with 40,000 miles. I have to say that the 24 valve duratec was pleasantly surprising with it's power.

Looking for oil opinions.

1. What is the best bet for oil (weight, visc, synth?)

2. Do you recommend slick 50 or dura-lube type engine additives at the oil change?


Any other helpful advice, suggestions or things to know about this car would be much appreciated (it's my first ford).

go and get as nice synthetic 5W-20 (what ford reccomends) or synthetic 5w30 nope junk save your money

the synthetic will allow you to extend the oilchange to about 5000-6000miles. also it allows less wear on the engine for double the price of oil.

I agree! Synthetic 5W20 will work fine in that car.

5w20 is good if you don't plan to keep the car forever. Otherwise use 5w30.

synthetic 5W20 and no additives. I use Castrol Syn or Mobil, whichever is on sale. 5W30 only in the summer (depending on where you live), if you want.
