I have a 2004 Taurus 6 cyl -- 3.0L SFI. About 140,000 miles

Started having issues where as it is lacking pickup/power.
Have replaced plugs, wires, cam sensor, ignition pack

Recently the plastic intake started burning holes in it due to something wrong with EGR system.

The mechanic replaced the intake, EGR and all 3 EGR related sensors.

But the car still has this problem of lacking power/pickup.
When the mechanic replaced the intake, EGR and sensors, we verified that the injectors are clean.
He also cleared the following OBC codes:
- P0171
- P2197
- P0300
- P2198

He left the vacumn line for the EGR disconnected until we can determine why this car is lacking power. He felt that maybe either the fuel filter, but probably cat converters/muffler may be restricted.
The cost to replace exhaust system is 900 dollars and I cannot afford to take a guess as to why this car is lacking power.

Can someone assist me?

The mechanic should be able to check for a restricted exhaust. Check the vacuum at idle and raise the rpm to about 2500 and the vacuum should drop and go back to almost what it was at idle. If it stays down, there's a restriction in the exhaust.

when the engine is at idle, how many PSI or inches should it be reading?

where is the best place to connect a vacuum gauge on this particular car?

It should read around 20 @ idle with a steady needle. Seems like there is a vacuum block on the firewall, not 100% sure though. I'll let someone else chime in on that one.
