I have a 2005 Taurus that has a low idle, it does not surge, it needs to warm up before it will idle at all. The idle is very low and if I give it a quick punch on the gas it will come down and die. It seems it will not come down to normal idle unless I ease the gas down. I seems to run fine when I drive it, just dies when I stop.

I just had a problem w/ a large vacuum leak that would cause the engine to quit instead of idle. I suggest looking for a vac. leak.

Take it to Autozone and they will pull codes for free.

The code Auto Zone pulled was the idle controll valve, so i replaced it... no change. I tried un-hooking the battery that I read on here to reset the idle but that didn't work.

Try cleaning the MAF with MAF cleaner. Did they tell you what the code was and after replacing it did the same code show up?
