Hi everyone, last August I purchased a 2006 Taurus with 55,000 miles. One day I wanted to listen to the radio while waiting for someone and do you think I can find the ACC location? I have been driving forever and in everything I have ever owned, ACC is found by turning the ignition switch counter clockwise (toward the driver). This is not the case in mine. I have to turn the switch to almost the point where it will engage the starter.
Am I missing soomething? - Thanks - Doug

Hello Doug, and good day to you:
You did turn the Key al the way back (counterclock wise)??
1. Turn the ignition to the 4 (ON)
position, then press the power door
UNLOCK control 3 times.
2. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF)
position, then press the power door
UNLOCK control 3 times.
3. Turn the ignition to the 4 (ON)
position. The horn will chirp one time as confirmation that the
programming mode is staged.
4. Within 5 seconds, press the power door UNLOCK control and then
press the power door LOCK control.
Note: The horn will chirp once if
autolock was deactivated or chirp once then honk (one short and one
long chirp) if autolock was activated.
5. Turn the ignition to the 3 (OFF) position. The horn will chirp once to
confirm the procedure is complete.
Smart unlocking feature
The smart unlocking feature helps prevent you from locking yourself out
of the vehicle. With the key in any ignition position, the driver’s door will
automatically unlock if it is locked using the power lock control on the
driver’s door panel while the driver’s door is open.
CHILDPROOF DOOR LOCKS
•
When these locks are set, the
rear doors cannot be opened from
the inside.
•
The rear doors can be opened
from the outside when the doors
are unlocked.
The childproof locks are located on
rear edge of each rear door and
must be set separately for each
door. Setting the lock for one door will not automatically set the lock for
both doors.
•
Move lock control up to engage the childproof lock.
•
Move control down to disengage childproof locks.
INTERIOR LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT RELEASE
Your vehicle is equipped with a mechanical interior luggage compartment
release handle that provides a means of escape for children and adults in
the event they become locked inside the luggage compartment.

Thank you Sterling Six. I do have the manual, saw that entry and my switch does not move to that position(position 1). I currently operate the radio from a position that can best be described as Position 4.5.

WOW!!
Ok I know my 2000 Escort does that.....Doug You may have a bad Ignition Switch...witch may not allow you to make a full contact in the normal position, witch it should be...
I will forward this info to a few of my Friends here in our forum, and ask them for their input. These guys are the Masters.
Please be patience, and we will get you some type of answer.
Thank you:

Check page 140 in your owners manual. The key should be able to turn counter clockwise from the lock position to listen to the radio without the engine running.
Thanks Bert, the "key" word (pun intended) here is "should". I have been driving fo 40 years and as stated, every car I have had this would work but not this '06 Taurus. So my question remains, "Am I missing something"?
You could try flipping the key over to see if it is an improper or worn key. Moving the gear lever up or down or the steering wheel left or right might let you get to ACC if either is binding the lock.
