Re: 89 Mercury Sable Spindle????????????
Okay, I screwed up! Waited to long to replace the rear wheel bearings and almost lost my tire and probably about to lose the other one.
I am looking to find out where do I get the rear spindles for my 89 Mercury Sable. Can not find one any where. Prefer not to have to head to the junk yards but if that is where I need to go I will.
Is the spindle the same as the rear axle shaft?
As you can see I am not that mechanically inclined but my boyfriend is doing all of the work and he cant find one either.
Only way you can get one is a junkyard/salvage. Did the shaft break or is it just galled up??? (Scratches/gouges) If kit's just scratches gouges then go to a parts store and see if they sell a knuckle saver. What it is is a sleeve that slides onto the spindle, then the bearing slips over and rides on this sleeve so there isn't any excessive play when assembled. This is typically only done on the inner bearing.
If you do go the used spindle route, be forewarned!!! 1986-1989 used conventional replaceable bearings. 1990-1995 used a hub with intergral bearing. So the spindle will be different on 1990-1995 models. So make sure the car it's coming out of is a 1986-1989 model.
