90 Taurus 3.0- Smoking Battery

I was having trouble keeping the battery charge right before Christmas. So I would dehook the negative battery cable everytime I turned off the car. After the holiday I change out the alternator.

I'm not 100% sure if it started before or after I change the alternator but 1 night(about a week later) I heard something hissing coming from under the hood. Then I saw smoking pouring out of the battery caps. Went bought a new battery, just figure last one was shot with all the draining and charging. Get home last night to change the headlight and notice same wet spots on top of the battery right by the caps. I've never heard of anything like this. I going to change the voltage regulator after the battery today after work hope thats it. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have a overcharging problem. The regulator is a safe bet.

Seems like faulty regulator to me.

You could check the charge rate with a voltmeter.

sounds like it could be a positive wire being grounded
