91 Taurus Tranny

Hi, my gf just purchased a 91 3.0L.The tranny has only 1st and reverse gears, so I'm in search of a new one. I only have experience with GM, so i figured you guys could help me out.
My question is, which auto trans will fit this car. I looked up the part number, it changes every year, so that's no help. If you could tell me what years and motors are compatible that would be great. My local dealer says only that year and motor will work, and he'd be happy to sell me a brand new one. I find that hard to believe. Help me out here, would ya?

My taurus broke a few months ago :/

I don't know where my friend found the info, but the '90 taurus will work too. They used the same tranny for a few years...

But if you find a site that sells one for a decent price, let me know...

I have a 91 Taurus and it had tranny problems. Your local dealer is correct...the 91 Taurus has a "one year only" transmission. Ford changed the tranny in 91, then again in 92 and never went back to the same model. It cost me over $1000 to have it rebuilt. No offense to the other person who posted, but you can not use the 90 trans in the 91. Good luck!
