'93 Taurus GL pully wobble...help!

Hey everyone. My dad's got a '93 Taurus GL sedan with a v6 3.0L. The other day it started making a real loud....noise...kinda like squealing and rubbing. We popped the hood, and behold, one of the pullies had a mad wobble to it.

It's one of the larger pullies above what I'd assume is the crank pully. Looking at the engine it is on the left side, close to the back of the engine (in line with the other pullies, and serp. belt). It had 4 small screws around the center of the pully, but nothing in the middle, so I was at a loss on how to tighten it up (if it is this simple).

attachments not working, will upload pics later

cool Re: '93 Taurus GL pully wobble...help!

Water Pump!!! If bolts for pulley are tight then you have a bad water pump. Usually when the pump is this bad coolant leaks from the weep hole under the shaft and it drips right down on the cat. converter, producing a white smoke.

you can just almost see in the first photo that the water pump pulley is out of alignment. I dont see if the bearings in the pump were that bad how it kept from leaking.

Well, it must've been a very small leak, but enough that it created white smoke (dripping on the cat)...tbird reminded me of this.

Its ok though, we found a used 'pump, and fixed it right up. Should last a bit more, he's looking at getting another mid-size sedan. Any ideas? (used, lower mileage, trying not to spend more then about 13 grand)

A used pump??? A few years ago a reman at Pep Boys would have cost me only $20. I went with a new one they sold for $35. A used one isn't a good idea. If you were trying to save money you should have went for the reman one.
