'93 Taurus- Steering noise

Hi. I have a '93 Taurus GL (V6, 3.0L, 67K). When I turn the steering wheel at a slow speed (ex. in parking lot, driveway), there is a loud noise (like something is rubbing or grinding against something). It only occurs at very slow speeds, not when driving at normal speed down the road. The noise also seems to be worse when it is raining. Any idea as to what might be causing this? And how much it might cost to repair. Thanks.

How far are you turning the wheel? Is it to the extremes? never heard of this on a gen2, but this is common on gen3's and is nothing to worry about. It involves the way the engineered the power steering hoses, there's a TSB to fix this that calls for replacing one of the hoses. I actually haven't heard this ever since I flushed my P.S. system using Amsoil ATF (yeah ATF but it's the same for p.s. fluid)

I may have the same problem with my 1993 Taurus GL Wagon 3.0L. The problem only exists on winter mornings. The problem started when Ford did some warranty work on the front suspension in 1995. I complained about the problem at the time, the service people told me the problem would go away "with time". It did, with the warmer weather, but came back when winter arrived, and the warranty had expired. The problem comes back every winter and isn't getting any better or worse.

Has anyone had this problem on coldish days as well?

I had a similar problem with a 1991 Taurus at about 40k and they ended up replacing the rack and pinion assembly for about $400. But the noise was random and then one day I couldn't turn the wheel and had to get it towed to the dealer.
