Does it have a 3.8L engine??? If so this could be a sign of head gaskets going. Does the cooling fan come on at all???

it is a 3.0 , and yes the fans do come on, there is no leakage from anywhere , pipes hoses, around the gasket, just up through the resivoir

I had the exact same problem with my '98 Taurus 3.0 Vulcan and a new pump solved the problem nicely. Check this link out

A water pump on a 3.0L Vulcan??? That's easy to do, even in the driveway.

1.) Drain the coolant.
2.) Remove the one screw and lift the Washer/coolant jug out. Disconnect the hoses and electrical connectors to the jug.
3.) With the serp belt still on, loosen the water pump pulley bolts.
4.) Remove the serp. belt.
5.) Remove the alternator.
6.) Remove the serp. belt tensioner and the idler pulley.
7.)Remove the heater hose from the top of the water pump.
8.) Remove the water pump pulley bolts. Move pulley around to get water pump bolts out, as the pullet will not come out alone.
9.) Remove the water pump retaining bolts. Important note!!! They are all different sizes-keep them organized.
10.) Remove the pump and pulley. Clean off the old gasket.
Installation is reverse of removal, there is one bolt that needs teflon pipe sealant on it's threads, looking at the water pump it is on the far left bottom hole. The alternator removed gives you much more room to work.

Re: 94 taurus boil over through reservoir

damienus said the temp gauge is in the middle, will a bad impellar cause the boil over at normal temp? I'd do a cooling system pressure check.
