When trying to start the car for the first time on any given day it will crank but won't turn over. The problem started about a week ago and would usually start after 10 - 30 seconds but after getting it started the first time, it would start right up throughout the day. It has gotten progresively worse. Now, it will not start sometimes but if I leave it for a few hours and try again it will start immediately. It would crank all day if I held the key. I thought possibly could be throttle positioning sensor or ignition coil. What do you think?

This may sound picky but we have to get something straight unless i miss read something. " It will crank but not turn over ". That is impossible. If it is cranking it is turning over. you mean it will not start. Does it fire while cranking ? the first thing i'd
ask is when was the last time you changed the fuel filter ? What fuel pressure do you have ? Do you have spark ? Does your fuel rail leak down ? Are your injectors leaking and flooding the engine over night ? What motor size ? Do you hear the fuel pump when
you turn the key ? What is the fuel pressure when you do get it running ?
Need a lot more info.

LOL...Chip I think he means It will turn over (crank) but won't start...lol...But I must agree on your means of checking out his problem.
