Hi All!

I am trying to replace the large serpentine belt on my fiancee's 95 Sable 3.8L V6. I have replaced these types of belts on rear-wheel drive cars without any problems.

My problem is that there doesn't seem to be enough clearance between the 15mm bolt head on the tensioner pulley and the side of the engine comparment to get any sort of socket on the bolt to rotate the tensior pulley.

I have tried to get a 1/2" breaker bar in there but that won't even fit without a socket on it. I tried a 3/8" breaker bar and that was better but still no clearance.

I want to torque that bolt clockwise to move the tensioner up toward the hood right?

How do I change this belt? Is there a special Ford tool or something? I tried for several hours last weekend.

I welded a ground down socket to a scrap piece of steel. Sound's goofey but it worked for me.
