96 SE tranny replacement - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

im replacing the tranny on my 96 with 178k miles on it, with the one i just pulled out of my old 97 with 100k miles that got smashed up....
my question is this, should i do a re-fresh kit on this or leave it how it is?
also i parked it two months ago and everything worked fine, now i cant get the headlights to turn on with the switch, and the highs dont work either, but the headlights do blink on when i set the factory alarm.
i checked the fuses under the dash with a test light and they are getting no power. also the battery keeps dying right away, the car runs perfect and everything when i jump it, but within 10 minutes of shutting it off the battery is dead again, and when i open the door with the dead battery i hear fast clicking from under the dash.
i tested the electrical system and it was like 14.3 or so at idle and the battery tested at 12.5 when it wasnt running.
any ideas on whats going on? lol

Just a guess .. the clicking you hear is from a circuit breaker on the fuse panel (one of those metal boxes) .. you have a short. Try pulling them out 'till you figure which one has the shorting circuit.
