Hi,

The symptom is, hard to start the engine, when fuel tank is low, especially
in the morning.

Should I check the fuel filter? or fuel pump?

Go to an Advance Auto Store and have them read the codes. There are several things that could cause this problem besides fuel. This would be a simple first step.

i didnt read that he had a check engine light on.but how low on gas?do u run it low often?what grade of gas? how many miles are on the car? cars shouldnt be driven to the point of empy often.fuel pumps are cooled by fuel which provides better starts.sediment at the bottom of the tank starts gettin sucked up when low which clogs ur fuel system.need more info.

Thanks for reply, here is more information.

1) I scanned with OBDII, but no code reported
2) This problem occurs all most every time, except the fuel tank level
is over 3/4.

However, when the tank is high, it just somewhat improves, not solves
totally. it takes 2 ~ 3 seconds to start the engine.

I believe it should start within one second, if everything normal.

3) The symptom is, the first starting allways fails, and 2nd or 3rd try
success.

4) Once started, symptom disappeared to the next time,
another words, if I turn off the engineen, and then,
to start the engineen, it is OK with the first starting.

5) If long time passes(several hours), since engine stopped,
then, a same problem occurs.

6) Just for test, I set the key to ACC, and push the accel. pedal
2 ~ 3 time, before turn on the starting motor, but result is same.

" Should you check the fuel filter " ? You don't check fuel filters you replace them. If your
filter hasn't been changed in 97 and every year after that you need a pump. If your filters have been changed every year you might still be looking at a pump. Try this. Turn
your key on and off 3 times before you start the car. If you hear the pump load up and the engine starts after the 3rd key cycle the filter is plugged solid. Save up for a pump. It will puke in about a year,maybe sooner after you change the filter in hot weather. Good luck. You could have a completely different problem but you never know. There is always Murphy's law. Read ThunderCougar's post. Learn it. Live by it. Running your gas tank low is not the best idea in the world. Yes those pumps are liquid cooled from the inside and outside. Hope you get it sorted.
