96 Taurus will not run, need help

Ive got a 96 Taurus GL. It has a 3.0 in it. I have already replaced the engine in it ahwile back. Ok, here is the deal. I was driving home from work the other day, and it was running great. All of a sudden it just died. Will not run. My fuel pump is working. i checked my gas lines and its getting gas. So i checked spark,i pulled a plug and wire and placed it on the manifold so it could ground, turned it over and nothing. So i put a new coil pack on it and still nothing. anybody have any idea's? I had a 92 taurus and this happened, ended up being the computer. Thanks for the help in advance.

Could be just your charging system ... make sure your battery voltage is at least 12.5 volts (engine off) and 14.0 volts at idle. The next most likely spark killer is the ignition module.

Don't know about the '96 .. in the '95 Ford stuck it in the passenger side vent just below the windshield (accessable from the engine side firewall .. you can see it if you look down into the vent holes just below the passenger wiper).

FYI-There is no seperate ignition module on a 1996-2006 Taurus/Sable-it is part of the PCM.

Re: 96 Taurus will not run, need help

I have the same problem (the same EXACT problem). So, I'm off to check my cam sensor. However, another thing that I noticed: my Taurus will fire ONE SINGLE spark from the coil every once in a while, but, of course, that's not enough to run the car.

Any other suggestions of what I can try if my cam sensor is good? And where is it located?

look down by your water pump on the left side toward the bottom. it will have wiring plugged into it, its right by the crank pully. Its magnatized with it. 2 bolts hold it on.
